Window furnishings instantly change the look of a room, but which should you choose: blinds or curtains? Both options can be attractive and can provide light control and privacy, but cellular window blinds have a number of advantages over curtains.
Cellular blinds offer more control of how much light is allowed to enter the room. Some metal coverings, for instance, shut tightly they allow almost no light to enter, which can be very handy in a nursery or in a bedroom occupied by anyone who wants to sleep undisturbed, without the sun streaming into the room. It can also be beneficial for rooms used for entertainment such as home theatres.
Other types of blinds enable you to control how much light is entering the room. They also soften the light, making it easier on the eyes. Moreover, many blinds are designed to provide privacy even when they are open or partially open.
Cellular window blinds not only cut down the light entering a room but can also reduce heat entering in the summer and radiating out in the winter, reducing energy costs.
Cellular blinds give a room elegance, and look more chic and contemporary than most curtains do. They also have the ability to create the illusion of a larger room if they are mounted a few centimetres below the ceiling and are slightly wider than the windows. Doing this makes the ceiling appear higher and the whole room bigger.
Shades also bring a polished look to a bathroom, where curtains are rarely chosen. Aluminium, wooden or P.V.C. are good choices for bathrooms, laundry rooms and other wet areas.
Curtains need to be washed fairly regularly, but most cellular blinds usually only need a quick wipe down with a damp cloth or duster. It may not be possible to wash curtains at home, especially large, heavy curtains. Dry cleaning may even be out of the question for some as they can be costly. Cellular blinds also tend to have a longer useful life than curtains and do not need replacing so often. Slats are a particularly good choice in a kitchen, since they can be easily pulled out of the way to avoid potential splashes. A sheer-fabric blind is easily pulled up, lends subtle style and softens the light coming in.
Cellular blinds look far more professional in a business or commercial building than curtains. It’s great that there are many styles and colours to choose from, so you can find a blind that fits with your company colours.
Coming in a wide range of styles, cellular blinds can be made from many materials, such as plastic, aluminium, wood, or fabrics. As such, there is bound to be a blind to suit any décor. Blind styles include vertical, venetian, roller, zebra, and illusion. Considering either cellular blinds or curtains? It need not be a choice of one or the other, as there is a growing trend to combine both, with people putting curtains in front of blinds. This lets you hit two birds with one stone: stylish window coverings and colourful or elegant curtains.
