Step 1
  • Width: Measure the inside of the window frame in 3 places from left to right – at the top, in the middle and down the bottom, as shown. Record the smallest measurement.
  • Height: Measure the inside of the window frame in 3 different places from top to bottom – on the right side, in the middle and on the left side, as shown. Record the smallest measurement.

Step 2
  • Depth required: To ensure there is
enough room for the shutters to operate freely. Keep things like shutter handles in mind – do you want handles sticking out further than the level of the wall?

Step 3
  • Diagonal: Measure from bottom left corner to the top right corner, then from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. If the measurements vary too
much, your window is out of square. This may sound bad, we’ll make sure you don’t notice a thing.

  • Width: Measure the exact width and height
of the area you would like the shutters to cover. We recommend the shutters overlap the window by at least 50mm on each edge.
If you have an architrave we recommend measuring from outside of architrave to outside of architrave.

REVEAL FIT INSTALLATION:

Step 2
  • Depth required:To ensure there is enough room for your blinds to operate freely, keep things like shutter width. If the individual slats stick out further than the wall when fully open, they damage easier. Consider moving the blind back, if possible, or selecting another design.

FACE FIT INSTALLATION:
For installation outside the window frame:

  • Width: Measure the exact width and height of the area you would like the shutters to cover. We recommend the shutters overlap the window by at least 50mm on each edge. If you have an architrave we recommend measuring from outside of architrave to outside of architrave.

How to measure for your new Curtains

Curtains can really tie the room together, completing the look of a room – if they’re measured correctly. Accuracy is paramount. Our team of professionals share some of their insights so you have a better understanding of key elements in the new windows process.

video

Before you begin, consider the following:
  • 1. Which style are you looking for, Inside Mount (Top Fix) or Outside Mount (Face Fix)?
  • 2. Which configuration appeals to you – Left hand stack, Right hand stack, Centre opening?
  • 3. Are you thinking Single Pinch Pleat, Double Pinch Pleat or Wave Fold?
OUTSIDE MOUNT/FACE FIX

Curtains are typically installed on the outside of the window or door frame, with the brackets positioned either at the top of the architrave or above it.

Tip:

If installing your curtain rail above the architrave, ensure you have a solid surface to screw into, like wood, for example.

step-icon
MEASURING WIDTH
  • Measure the exact width you would like the curtain to cover. The measurement of the track will be the same as the curtain width. For best light reduction we recommend the curtain extend 150-200mm either side of the window or door opening.
http://Free%20Measure%20and%20Quote
step-icon
MEASURING HEIGHT/DROP FOR pinch pleat
  • As the track sits behind the curtain with Pinch Pleating, measure the exact height you would like the curtain to cover.
Tip 1
For doors, allow a 15mm gap between the bottom of the curtain and the floor.
Tip 2
For windows, the curtain should extend 150-200mm below the bottom of the window frame.

step-icon
MEASURING HEIGHT/DROP FOR wave fold
  • Measure the exact height you would like the curtain to cover. Keep in mind that the track sits directly above the curtain, so allowances need to be made for best fit.
Tip 1
For doors, allow a 15mm gap between the bottom of the curtain and the floor.
Tip 2
For windows, the curtain should extend 150-200mm below the bottom of the window frame.

INSIDE MOUNT/TOP FIX

Curtains mounted on the inside of the window or door frame, known as inside mount or top fix, is fairly simple: just measure the width and height of the opening in 3 places; the shortest measurement is what your curtain will be.

Tip 1
For Wave Fold curtains, note the top of the curtain sits below the track (20mm from top of track to top of fabric).

How to measure for your new awning

Awnings can create beautiful outdoor spaces, protecting from both sun and rain. Measuring how far your awning should extend depends on the size of the area you need to shade and which direction your awning faces.

video

What Size Awning Do I Need?

step-icon
Step 1
  • Start by measuring the area that you want the awning to cover. This will dictate how far the awning should extend.
step-icon
Step 2
  • Check the direction of the awning in relation to the sun – most homes with East or West facing walls don’t need an awning that extends more than 3-4 metres due to shadows naturally falling into the range of the awning.
  • If your wall faces North or South, we recommend going for the greatest size possible. Even your width should be 50-60cm feet larger than your covered space on either side, instead of the usual 20 cm.
http://Free%20Measure%20and%20Quote
step-icon
Step 3
  • To get your height measurement, mark where on the wall you would like to hang the awning and add 20-25 cm inches above the mark. This will give you your height range for where you can hang your awning.

Retractable Awnings.

step-icon
Step 1
  • Retractable awnings require around 25 cm of clearance when hung over openings, such as windows or doors, for the enclosure that the awning retracts into.

step-icon
Step 2
  • Getting your width measurement is easier: just measure the length of your wall!

Measuring for your new screen – Face fixed

The safest method of measuring is to fit the screen to the face of the window and this is sometimes the only option. You would then drill through the frame of the window surround, and screw or rivet in place.

step-icon
Step 1
  • Width: Measure the inside of the window frame in 3 places from left to right – at the top, in the middle and down the bottom, as shown. Record the smallest measurement.

Measuring for your new screen – Recess Fixed

step-icon
Step 1
  • To get your screen height, measure inside the recess of the window where the screen will be located. Measure both the left and right edges, then deduct 2-3 mm to allow fitting clearance and record the smallest measurement.

How to measure for your new roofing system

Our roofing solutions help create beautiful outdoor spaces, protecting from both sun and rain. Measuring how big your roofing solution will be will depend on the size of the area you need to shade.

video

What Size Awning Do I Need?

step-icon
Step 1
  • Start by measuring the area that you want the roof to cover. Where your space is located may determine the type of roofing solution that suits your needs. Is your roof going to be exposed to heavy rain and hail? What about wind?
step-icon
Step 2
  • Your next consideration is height – this entails a little more than just being able to fit the tallest person in your family under it. Factors like fixing points, walls and trees will also need to be considered when determining your roofing solution’s height.
Tip 1
It’s easy to fall into the trap iof going as high as possible, but keep in mind, too much height will allow rain to enter your undercover area more easily.

Is there a difference between curtains and blinds?

Indeed there is: curtains are fabric panels that are most often sold in pairs. You’ll find curtains in a wide range of widths, lengths, fabrics, colors, and patterns, making them a versatile and popular choice for every room of the home, even bathrooms and kitchens. While blinds lift up and down with a cord or lifting mechanism like shades do, they differ in that blinds are not a solid length of fabric.

Are curtains on all of my windows necessary?

Curtain choice is based on your overall design decor. If you are looking to create a more suitable home environment, then purchasing curtains for all of your ground floor windows is ideal.

What kind of material are curtains made from?

Typical decorator fabrics that are suitable for curtains include linens; silks and faux silks; cotton and cotton-blend chintz, which have a shiny coating; warp sateens, which are smooth and heavy; drapery antique satins with characteristic slabs; and brocades, with raised, tapestry-inspired motifs.
